This song has followed my heart for a few years, up till now where the collective state of things seem to have met it's meaning. When music comes to me, its not on a very conscious level at first. So I often let the songs float in my mind and life for some time before I fully figure out their reason.
Years later, The Shell has become a personal revelation for me, but also observing the time we are now experiencing, it seems it may have some other layers. But the one obvious layer is Love. Troubles may come but love endures all things.
1 Corinithians 1-13 (A great daily reminder)
This passage in the Bible speaks volumes, regardless of faith. It tells us what Love truly is, it suffers long and is kind, it bears all, believes all, hopes all and endures. We can get real excited about that as we think about the ones we love, but it also tells us what Love is not... which perhaps is easier to forget as we get caught up in our daily human-ess. We all do. How many times have we forgotten that Love does not boast, parade itself, envy, its not rude, it doesnt seek its own selfish needs, is not provoked, thinks no evil, doesnt rejoice in iniquity but in truth. And one part of that truth is that every one us, at one point in time, has forgotten that or failed to follow it.. And that in itself is one reason why God told us these things. Because His Love is incomparable. And despite our forgetfulness, despite earthly troubles, we are still loved in so many ways beyond our comprehension.

The Shell - words & music by Michele Karmin c. 2020

Living in the shell
Saying all is well
Is this the way it's supposed to be
How am I to tell
All is really well
When I keep pretending I don't see
I'm living in the shell
Saying all is well
Is this the way it's supposed to be
If all is really well
How would I even tell
When I'm just the shell of what I used to be
*** Hold me steady
At the rate I've gone
These bones have grown heavy
And I am not as strong
I walk on farther
Like a swaying reed
But your love, your love, your love
Shelters me
Living in the shell
Saying all is well
Is this the way it's supposed to be
How am I to tell
All is really well
When I keep pretending I don't see
I'm living in the shell
Just saying all is well
Is this the way it's supposed to be
If all is really well
How would I even tell
When I'm just the shell of what I used to be
*** Walk beside me
While the night is long
My heart has grown heavier
There's so much wrong
I draw some water
From your river's stream
And there your love, your love, your love
Shelters me
And there your love, your love, your love shelters me
And there your love, your love, your love shelters me
And there your love, your love, your love shelters me
